{"id":2456,"date":"2015-09-11T19:04:15","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T19:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chacamelia.com\/admin\/tudo-sobre-o-cha\/a-cerimonia-japonesa-do-cha\/"},"modified":"2020-05-22T22:48:49","modified_gmt":"2020-05-22T22:48:49","slug":"tea-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chacamelia.com\/en\/all-about-tea\/tea-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Tea Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tea ceremony (Chanoyu, which simply means \u201cWay of The Tea&#8221;) is of crucial importance in traditional Japanese culture and is characterised by serving and drinking Matcha, a powdered green tea, in a simple and harmonious environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"max-width: 100%; padding: 30px 0;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Drop Of Harmony\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/418173826?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"980\" height=\"418\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Tea, from China, was introduced to Japan in the sixth century by Buddhist monks, who discovered that tea increased the concentration during meditation. For a long time, tea was only grown and consumed by the monks. A formal ceremony was introduced only in the late 12th century by a monk called Eisai. At that time, the valuable tea beverage was also used for medicinal purposes. The custom of drinking Matcha spread among the priests of the temples and the upper classes. They then follow a path to the tea house, which is a simple wooden structure. Before going in, they wash their hands and mouth at a well. The entrance to the tea house is low\u00a0so that all participants have to enter on their knees (indeed Samurai have to leave their swords out) and by getting on their knees, all people assume equal importance. Shoes are left at the entrance of the structure and once inside, participants sit on the ground waiting for the tea master. Inside the structure, there is always a Tokonoma (corner) with a display of calligraphy and seasonal flowers.
