The name derives from the word Kama, which is the name of the iron in which the leaves are heated. This very different style of green tea, nowadays is very rare in Japan. Our Kamairicha from Kyushu (southern Japan) is made from the leaves of the Kanaya Midori tea plant and therefor surprises with its green, complex yet delicate infusion.
